WiViTe – Innovative knowledge rooms – Knowledge transfer and knowledge generation in virtual teams

Objective
The research project WiViTe investigates how digital knowledge transfer and knowledge generation in virtual teams can be efficiently designed. The aim is to develop and practically test a new type of work, organisation and information science method. This is based on a digital platform in order to facilitate the construction, transfer
and to support the networking of knowledge in virtual collaboration.

Procedure
The research project empirically analyses the particularities and challenges of digital knowledge transfer and knowledge generation in virtual teams. The resulting requirements form the starting point for the development of a holistic approach to the design and organization of digital knowledge processes. Based on this socio-technical framework, concrete design measures will be derived and transferred into a method for optimizing digital knowledge transfer and knowledge generation processes. The virtual exchange and networking takes place via an IT platform that enables the barrier-free integration of various tools, especially e-mail, video conferencing systems and social networks. The benefits and applicability of the method will be tested and evaluated in the participating SMEs.

Results
The results can be used to shape the digital working world of the future. The developed methodology enables efficient and pleasant collaboration in virtual space. Particularly with regard to the increasingly digitally networked and knowledge-intensive working world, the research project contributes to the improvement of working conditions and long-term employability of employees and increases the innovation and competitiveness of medium-sized companies.

Digital Corporate Roadmapping

Digitization and the transformation of business models are key issues for companies. For almost all business sectors, opportunities for transformation and redesign are presented (for example, for big data and analytics, cloud strategies, predictive maintenance, internet of things, mobile work, agile project management, etc.).

But where is a company to be put into practice? How does a company create an adequate entry into this comprehensive subject? Which areas of the company should the CIO focus on with specific proposals?

Together with partners from practice, we want to identify the areas of concern in which companies see the greatest need for action. From this we will develop an approach for the coordination and control of the activities for the digitization in companies (the “Digital Roadmap”). This approach is primarily intended for CIOs. It is intended to help them to develop concrete options for the digitization of their company. He will enable them to support the business in the identification of new business models.

Digitale Transformation and Industrial Internet

The aim of the study is to analyse the Digital Transformation in enterprises of the German-speaking countries holistically, for the complete value chain. Above all, the organizational abilities of companies necessary for Digital Transformation are the main focus.

Point of interest are : What is the status quo: what know-how do companies currently use? What are possible developmental paths for the knowledge of digital transformation: Which skills are to be used, expanded or newly developed in the future? What are good practices? What should be considered when using, expanding or building this knowledge? What effect does Digital Transformation have? The current situation is to be related to the financial performance data of the companies. Are there typical combinations of skills? From the results, patterns of Digital Transformation are developed.

The study is carried out by our research institute IOAS – Institute of Applied Science – on behalf of SOA Innovation Lab and Detecon Consulting in cooperation with Bitkom.
